Facilities and Equipment
This group handles the day-to-day needs for equipment and supplies for playing pickleball (keys, nets, balls, timers, lockers, etc), interaction with the operators of our facilities (Little Current Recreation Centre, MSS, Central Manitoulin outdoor courts, etc), and strategic consideration of future play locations and facilities.
- Maintain inventory of nets (condition, location, planned replacement).
- Maintain supply of balls (inventory and location, where/how to order more balls, keep inventory of different colour/type of balls, make sure they get to all of the play locations).
- Arrange the optimal process for handling keys for the Little Current arena in the summer.
- Engage with Pickleball Canada’s Facilities Task Team for advice (Dec 13, 2025 email available).
- Fine-tune the contract with NEMI for facilities and responsibilities (cleaning, access hours, communication of schedule disruptions).
- Designate an “equipment manager” for each location who knows what we have and where (including alternates so at least two people manage this for each location).
- Work with our liaison at the NEMI Recreation Centre (Reid Taylor).
- Work with our Central Manitoulin liaison for outdoor Mindemoya courts (Alison Sloss).
- Work with MSS for permit renewals and other communication (Rainbow District School Board
- permit administrators are the contact point, but we should work on having better connection
- with someone actually at the school).
- Plan out upcoming equipment needs.
- Handle design/procurement for apparel and other branded merchandise
- Facilities - what happened last year, anything to change? Revisit annually.
- Facilities – consider roll-out or tiled court surfaces in the curling arena?
- Consider equipment/software for electronic display boards for tournaments or other helpful play aids (like the timer we purchased with grant money).
- Consider improvements to existing facilities and/or court surfaces (roll-out or tile courts, do just one as a pilot? Subcommittee to investigate this).
- Consider different venues for future play, whether to expand further across Manitoulin, or to achieve better facilities (dedicated year-round courts?).
