Recent News

Dear Pickleball Manitoba Members, Affiliated Clubs, and Community Partners,

As we approach the holiday season, the Board of Pickleball Manitoba extends warm wishes to you and your families. May this time of year bring joy, rest, and plenty of opportunities to connect on and off the courts. We are grateful for the passion, sportsmanship, and community spirit that each of you brings to our growing pickleball family.

The Power of Membership

Your membership, whether through an affiliated club or as an independent player forms the backbone of Pickleball Manitoba. The small annual fee you contribute has a big and lasting impact. It allows us to plan and expand programming that supports players of all ages and skill levels, including:

  • Youth athlete development programs, building the next generation of competitors.

  • Learn-to-play initiatives, helping newcomers discover the joy of the sport.

  • Sport for Life and healthy living programs, ensuring pickleball remains accessible, welcoming, and beneficial for lifelong wellness.

The saying “strength in numbers” truly applies to our community. Our crew of member Volunteers for both the provincial and National Championship tournaments in terms of numbers and effort was overwhelming. Each membership strengthens our collective voice, enabling us to advocate for improved facilities across Manitoba, expand opportunities for participation, provide a significant cross section of skill clinics and create meaningful policy to ensure the sport remains fun, safe, and inclusive for all.

Competitive Highlights

2025 has been a year to celebrate. Our Provincial Championships showcased remarkable talent, sportsmanship, and growth in every age group and division. Additionally, Manitoba was proud to host the 2025 National Championships, an event that not only brought high-caliber competition to our home courts but also highlighted our province as a leader in the Canadian pickleball community. Of particular note was the inclusion of a Manitoba initiative: The first Provincial Team Competition at the nationals with six provinces competing for a true National Champion. We are proud of the Manitoba team who collected a bronze medal for us. Thank you to the athletes, volunteers, officials, and clubs who helped make these events memorable.

Why Tournament Sanctioning Matters

For our tournament directors and event organizers, sanctioning your tournaments through Pickleball Manitoba and Pickleball Canada provides significant benefits:

  • Comprehensive accident and liability insurance coverage for all participants under the national policy.

  • An honorarium program now supports sanctioned events, with compensation levels based on the tier of competition. ( contact us at info@1pickleballmb.ca for more information)

  • Opportunities for referees to gain the experience needed to support larger and more prestigious tournaments—ultimately helping us attract major events to Manitoba.

Sanctioning not only elevates event quality but also strengthens the development of officials, athletes, and the overall competitive ecosystem within our province.

A Strong Membership Builds a Stronger Future

A vibrant and engaged membership base enables us to build a stronger organization—one capable of expanding programs across Manitoba, nurturing future stars, advocating for upgraded and new facilities, and ensuring sound governance and policy. Your ongoing support empowers Pickleball Manitoba to shape the future of our sport and create opportunities that benefit the entire community.

On behalf of the Board, thank you for being an essential part of Pickleball Manitoba. We wish you a wonderful holiday season and look forward to an exciting year of growth, competition, and community in 2025.

Warm regards,
Pickleball Manitoba Board of Directors

      • Manitoba Teachers Conference

The Physical Health Educators of Manitoba hosted a Professional Development Day on October 25, 2024, at the Sport for Life Centre. Teachers from across Manitoba had the opportunity to participate in sessions like Games from Around the World, Introduction to Boxing, and Pickleball 101!

The afternoon session began with a welcoming speech from Vice President Suzanne Davidson. She encouraged schools to contact Pickleball Manitoba if they wanted to arrange for instructors to visit their schools. This initiative would give both students and teachers the opportunity to learn how to play pickleball directly from skilled instructors ! As well she shared that any school reaching out to PMI’s website would be entered in a draw for a Pickleball Net, Paddles, and balls for their school!

The Pickleball session saw strong interest, with 60 teachers signed up to learn about the game and bring it back to their schools. Certified coaches Jackie Jacobson and Kim Ezzard provided an introduction that covered the game’s background, rules, court setup, shots, and strategy. Attendees observed demo games and then had a chance to play with guidance from volunteer advisors. The enthusiasm was clear as teachers extended the session beyond its allotted time, captivated by the sport’s appeal.

The event’s success was a testament to the dedication of PMI board members Kelly, Laurie, Suzanne, and Kim alongside volunteers Judy Reid, Lisa Bergson, Dave Holder, Dave Henry, and Ken Bradford! Thank you all!
