Keynote Speaker -Tracy Bennet "State of Pickleball Coaching in Canada"

Coaching Education will discuss how one of the country’s fastest-growing sports is
reshaping athlete development, certification standards, and coaching opportunities from
grassroots recreation to high-performance competition. This keynote examines the rapid
rise of pickleball participation across Canada, the evolving role of coaches in clubs and
communities, and the challenges facing the sport as demand outpaces infrastructure
and formal training pathways.

Break out Block  #1 Choose between A or B

A. Play-Based Learning (target ages 7-10) - Carol Graham

This interactive 45-minute session is designed for coaches and club leaders looking to
grow and strengthen youth pickleball programs. Participants will explore age-
appropriate lesson design for ages 7–10, with a strong focus on fun, engagement, and
skill development through games and activities. The session will also cover practical
strategies clubs can use to attract and retain young players, including program
structure, marketing ideas, and creating a welcoming environment for families. Coaches
will leave with ready-to-use drills, game-based lesson plans, and actionable ideas to
build a thriving youth program.

B. Use what they know - Building pickleball skills through pre-existing
knowledge - Joel Pelletier

This coaching topic is all about helping players build pickleball skills through pre-existing
knowledge and natural movement patterns. Instead of overcomplicating technique, we
connect new skills to things your body and brain already understand—making learning
feel simpler, faster, and more repeatable on the court.

Break out Block #2 Choose between A or B

A. Part 2: Play-Based Learning (target ages 11-14) - Carol Graham

This interactive 45-minute session is designed for coaches and club leaders looking to
grow and strengthen youth pickleball programs. Participants will explore age-
appropriate lesson design for ages 11-14, with a strong focus on progression and social
play through games and activities. Coaches will leave with ready-to-use drills, game-
based lesson plans, and actionable ideas to build a thriving youth program.

B. Systematic Approach to Teaching Technique - Tracy Bennet

This session provides coaches with a practical framework for developing sound
fundamentals, accelerating player improvement, and creating more consistent learning
outcomes. This breakout session explores how to break down pickleball technique into
teachable progressions, identify common movement and stroke errors, and apply
effective cueing, demonstration, and feedback strategies for players of all skill levels.

Panel topic:

Moderator - Ilsa Wong

All NCCP certified coaches will also have an opportunity to use the symposium as credit towards a Full Day of Professional Development.
