Who We Are
Barrie Pickleball Club is a not-for-profit group, which incorporated on June 14, 2021.
We are a group of passionate and dedicated pickleball players advocating for the needs of all pickleball players in our community. Before formalizing, our advocacy resulted in the addition of a pickleball court on the Sandringham Park tennis court and subsequent construction of both the original Painswick Park and Redpath Park dedicated pickleball courts.
Highlights in 2021 include, receiving a $25,000 New Horizons for Seniors Grant which the Club turned over to the City of Barrie. The grant funds were used toward the construction of 2 additional dedicated courts at Painswick Park as well as court equipment for the Club. Our advocacy and determination in expanding places to play also resulted in 4 dual purpose courts at Greenfield Park.
In 2022, City Council approved a Staff Report recommending the construction of an 8 court tournament facility at Painswick Park. Construction on those courts is well underway and expected to be completed in the fall of 2023. Six of the new courts will be built to competitive play specifications and 2 will be built to elite/wheelchair size specifications. We believe the 2 elite/wheelchair size courts will be the first outdoor courts of their kind in Ontario.
In the fall of 2022 construction of 4 dedicated courts at Eastview Park was completed.
The Club plays indoors at several public and catholic schools in Barrie throughout the fall/winter months.
Currently the Barrie Pickleball Club consists of the following directors and founding members:
Bonnie Carter, Gil Metcalfe, Kim Porter, Scott Foster & Tamara Crawford.
Barrie Pickleball Club Mission
- Promote the game of Pickleball as a social, intellectually stimulating, fun and healthy physical activity for players of all ages
- Acquire and develop more facilities, times and places to play
- Create opportunities for skills and player development by offering relevant and diverse programming

The membership fee covers outdoor court permit costs which the Club must pay to the City of Barrie to reserve the courts. The fees also pay for Club supplies such as first aid kits, ice packs, white boards and markers, membership tags, etc. The Club has also started a reserve fund to purchase winter storage units, court equipment for the new courts at Eastview Park and windscreens for the new 8 court facility under construction at Painswick Park.
** Effective May 1st the membership fee will increase to $50.
