Summer Outdoor Session 2026

The outdoor season is anticipated to begin on Monday, May 18th.

To help cover the cost of increased court fees and ensure sufficient interest and commitment from players to justify renting the courts, members will be required to register and pay for each event in which they wish to participate.

The club will run level-based events Monday to Friday between 6pm and 10pm on courts E through J. Registration will be required.

Due to a lack of interest, we will not offer beginner or open-play opportunities.

We are in the process of developing a draft schedule and will update the membership once complete.

No refunds will be provided for inclement weather.

Who We Are

Barrie Pickleball Club is a not-for-profit group incorporated on June 14, 2021.

We are passionate and dedicated pickleball players advocating for the needs of pickleball players in our community. Before formalizing, our advocacy resulted in adding a pickleball court on the Sandringham Park tennis court and subsequent construction of the original Painswick Park and Redpath Park dedicated pickleball courts.

Highlights in 2021 included receiving a $25,000 New Horizons for Seniors Grant, which the Club turned over to the City of Barrie. The grant funds were used to construct two additional dedicated courts at Painswick Park and purchase court equipment for the Club. Our advocacy and determination to expand places to play also resulted in four dual-purpose courts at Greenfield Park.

In the fall of 2022, construction of 4 dedicated courts at Eastview Park was completed.

In 2022, the City Council approved a Staff Report recommending constructing an 8-court tournament facility at Painswick Park. Construction on those courts was completed in the fall of 2023.  Six new courts are built to competitive play specifications, and two are built to elite/wheelchair-size specifications.  We believe the two elite/wheelchair-size courts will be the first outdoor courts in Ontario.

The Club plays indoors at several public and catholic schools in Barrie throughout the fall/winter months.

Currently, the Barrie Pickleball Club consists of the following directors and founding members: Gil Metcalfe, Kim Porter, Tamara Crawford, Wendy Burke, and Michael Agema.

Outdoor Play Registration

Below are the outdoor opportunities at Painswick Park, as part of the interim schedule.

No Beginner Programming

Please note that there are no beginner programming options due to ongoing lack of interest.

Junior Participation Policy

At this time, the Barrie Pickleball Club does not offer dedicated junior programming. However, juniors may be permitted to participate on a case-by-case basis if they demonstrate the ability to maintain a rally at a 2.5 skill level or higher for open play during indoor sessions.

The summer schedule does not include open play. As such, junior participants will be expected to meet the required skill level for each specific event.

Junior members meeting this criteria are free and events will be reduced by 50%.

Contact events@barriepickleballclub.ca if your child wishes to join.

Where to Play

City of Barrie Pickleball courts are available for community use unless the Club or other organizations have rented them. During the summer months, the Barrie Pickleball Club will rent 6 courts at Painswick Park from 8 am-10 am and again from 6 pm-10 pm Mondays-Fridays. Club membership is required to participate in Club-organized levels and leagues.

The Barrie Pickleball Club pays a significant fee to rent the courts from the City of Barrie for programming. Permits for 2025 were posted on the website under the additional documents section, but have since been removed now that the season has concluded.

The City of Barrie has posted paddle racks and instructions on court-sharing etiquette at Painswick Park & Eastview courts.

The Club offers a wide range of evening indoor play options at several local schools in the fall, winter, and spring, catering to levels around 3.0.

Also, during the fall/winter, the City of Barrie offers drop-in pickleball at both the East Bayfield and Peggy Hill Recreation Centers. Please check the City of Barrie drop-in schedule for details.
