      • Manitoba Teachers Conference

The Physical Health Educators of Manitoba hosted a Professional Development Day on October 25, 2024, at the Sport for Life Centre. Teachers from across Manitoba had the opportunity to participate in sessions like Games from Around the World, Introduction to Boxing, and Pickleball 101!

The afternoon session began with a welcoming speech from Vice President Suzanne Davidson. She encouraged schools to contact Pickleball Manitoba if they wanted to arrange for instructors to visit their schools. This initiative would give both students and teachers the opportunity to learn how to play pickleball directly from skilled instructors ! As well she shared that any school reaching out to PMI’s website would be entered in a draw for a Pickleball Net, Paddles, and balls for their school!

The Pickleball session saw strong interest, with 60 teachers signed up to learn about the game and bring it back to their schools. Certified coaches Jackie Jacobson and Kim Ezzard provided an introduction that covered the game’s background, rules, court setup, shots, and strategy. Attendees observed demo games and then had a chance to play with guidance from volunteer advisors. The enthusiasm was clear as teachers extended the session beyond its allotted time, captivated by the sport’s appeal.

The event’s success was a testament to the dedication of PMI board members Kelly, Laurie, Suzanne, and Kim alongside volunteers Judy Reid, Lisa Bergson, Dave Holder, Dave Henry, and Ken Bradford! Thank you all!
