DUPR
DUPR
Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating.
This is the current global system for pickleball skill ratings. It is a fairly young system, and you will read many pros and cons about it. Regardless, it is the current system being used worldwide for pickleball.
Some players are very keen to be involved with DUPR ratings and in fact, if you are interested in playing in tournaments, you have no choice but to be on DUPR. Other players have no interest whatsoever in being involved and that is perfectly okay. DUPR is for all player levels.
Horseshoe Valley Pickleball has officially become a DUPR club. This provides an optional opportunity for those members interested in DUPR rated games. What this means, is that it allows our club members to easily record games and have instant approval, with no pending time restrictions. Club games are also weighted 5 times that of an individually reported score, second to tournaments. DUPR is continually working to update their algorithms, with the most recent update on July 9th.
For some members, this will be foreign language, for others common knowledge. Whether you participate in DUPR games is entirely up to you. It is just an additional opportunity for those that wish to partake. All our club playing categories remain the same with self assessment.
DUPR is free to join and you can download the app on your phone.
Unfortunately, it has started to become plagued with advertising, just ignore and don’t pay.
If you think this is something you are interested in or would like more information, please send a direct message to Wendy Simms on TeamReach. We will generate a list and provide those interested with additional information.
Reminders for the Season
As the weather improves and extended indoor winter programs wind down, the courts will continue to get busier. Here are a few general reminders to help keep things running smoothly:
- When using the TeamReach app, please try to stay within the same comment stream when you answer someone. That means you have to click on their comment and add your comment there.
- Please be specific when looking for players stating the day, time and skill level category.
- Please use direct messaging when appropriate.
- Please use the self assessment tools available
- You do not have to post on TeamReach whether you are coming or not, you may just show up. Many members like to post so that they know they will at least have a foursome. You may choose to use direct message first. Then let members know you have a foursome and hope more will join.
- If HVPB courts designated for a certain time slot are empty, by all means they may be utilized by any category. But if players of the designated category arrive, the courts should be yielded to that group once the current game is finished
- Please respect our guest policy
- We cannot entertain court reservations during Play 4, (see below) but with the amount of time available, the odds are pretty good that your group will be able to have uninterrupted play.
- Thank you again for adhering to the schedule restrictions from the Township by respecting their court allocations with regard to club vs public space.
We have changed the name of the Team Reach timeslot to Play 4. Same rules, different name!
The Play 4 time slot is for a group of 4 to have time to play together. The group of 4 could have gathered their group throughTeamReach, text, email, phone or in person. The group does not have to rotate any other players into their group, but the groups do have to rotate through the available courts. They cannot monopolize the court if there are other groups waiting to play. It is a great opportunity to practice with a specific partner or group of people.
Thank you for your attention to these reminders. Enjoy the season.
Mission Statement
To promote fitness, camaraderie and a sense of community within the Horseshoe Valley Pickleball Club. This will be accomplished by facilitating safe, inclusive, fun and engaging games of pickleball at the Memorial Park.
8-12 New Horseshoe Valley Pickleball Courts
We’re thrilled to announce that the Township of Oro-Medonte’s Council has approved the funding to build 8-12 new pickleball courts at Horseshoe Valley Memorial Park at the corner of Horseshoe Valley Road and 4th Line N. Our club will move to these courts once they are completed. The council’s goal is to have the design finalized and construction drawings created by late spring 2025 and then they will put the project out to tender. Construction is expected to begin early fall 2025 so as not to disrupt our summer play on the multi-purpose pad. This is exciting news and we can’t wait to have our first season on these new courts.
