Our Quest for Dedicated Outdoor Courts in Grey Highlands
One of the 3 main goals of the Pickleball Club of Grey Highlands (PGH) was to promote the development of dedicated pickleball courts in Grey Highlands. To that end PGH has made two delegations to the Municipality of Grey Highlands. The latest presentation in May 2024 proposed a facility with 4 courts located on a site adjacent to the Flesherton Arena.
In December of 2024 the Municipal Council approved in principle the Club's proposal for four, outdoor pickleball courts on vacant land just south of Flesherton Arena. These will be public courts for the residents of Grey Highlands and visitors to the area. The current estimated cost of constructing 4 courts could be as much as or more than $200K. Unfortunately MGH's Provincial Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Grant application was unsuccessful this year. However, the Municipality has ear-marked $50K from the Parks Development Reserve Fund. This leaves us with the challenge of raising $100K in sponsorships, donations and other fundraising tools, while continuing to look for grant assistance. We have received major $10K sponsorships from both Fleshcon and Capstone. Combining this with contributions from Fawcett Funeral Home, Porteous Russell Real Estate, the Centre for Mind/Body Health, Wilton Sanitation, Colton's Garage and Bernard's Quality Cars & Service, as well as a lovely bunch of individual contributors puts us over $50K in the bag. Game on!
