Competitive and Advanced Assessment
Competitive and Advanced Status Assessment Procedures
A member may be granted competitive (or advanced) status if an assessment committee determines, through observation over 2–3 sessions, that the member consistently meets the criteria outlined in the 3.5 checklist for competitive status (or the 4.0 checklist for advanced status). Refer to the checklist below to review criteria.
Members seeking competitive (or advanced status) should follow these steps:
- Self-assessment: A member seeking competitive status self-assesses they consistently meet 3.5 criteria while playing at the open level. The member was invited to 2-3 competitive sessions and successfully kept up with play. A member seeking advanced status self-assesses they consistently meet 4.0 criteria during competitive play, and they successfully kept up with play in 2-3 advanced sessions.
- Request for assessment: The member requests an invitation from an executive member to attend 2–3 competitive (or advanced sessions) for assessment.
- Committee selection and observation: The executive member appoints a suitable assessment committee of 2–3 people to evaluate the member’s readiness for competitive (or advanced) play. The committee uses the applicable 3.5 or 4.0 checklist as the assessment benchmark during the assessment sessions.
- Feedback: After each session, the committee provides the member with feedback based on the applicable checklist.
- Approval: If the committee determines the member consistently meets the required criteria, the member is moved to the competitive (or advanced) division and begins receiving Sign-Up Genius (SUG) invitations for that level of play.
- Unsuccessful assessment: If the committee determines the member does not meet the required criteria, feedback is provided, and the member may request reassessment after 6-8 weeks.
