Shazam! Here come the courts!
The municipality plans to break ground on courts this spring. At the Council meeting on January 21st, Grey Highlands Council voted 5 to 1 to move ahead with building 4 dedicated pickleball courts on public land near the Flesherton Arena and Library. Relying on a staff report which set out a plan to recover costs over a period of 4 - 6 years through user fees, additional sponsorships and court rentals. The Council chose to "have a little faith" as the Mayor put it. We appreciate the Council's confidence and vision. Yay!
Our job is not over, however. After a full year of knocking on doors and sending emails, and a couple of fundraising events, we are still short of our goal. We really need some corporate interests to sponsor player benches ($5,000) or put their brand on one of the courts ($10,000). The game is still afoot (on and off the court)!
