Pickleball Club Membership

We welcome pickleball players of all ages.

The 2024 membership fee with the Barrie Pickleball Club is $55 for adults. Junior (under 18yrs) membership is $20.

As a Pickleball Ontario affiliated club, Pickleball Ontario ($10) and Pickleball Canada ($10) memberships are also required for both junior and adult memberships.

Your 2024 membership is valid until December 31st and includes participation in outdoor/summer programming as well as the opportunity to register for indoor play in the fall of 2024 (details to be announced in late summer). Indoor play is at an additional cost. The outdoor/summer schedule will go into effect in late May when the weather becomes conducive to warrant permitting the courts. The schedule will be emailed to all current members.

Your membership fees pay the outdoor court rental costs which the Club must pay to the City of Barrie to reserve the courts. The fees also pay for Club supplies such as first aid kits, ice packs, white boards and markers, etc. The Club has also started a reserve fund to purchase windscreens for the new 8 court facility at Painswick Park.

Who We Are

Barrie Pickleball Club is a not-for-profit group, which incorporated on June 14, 2021.

We are passionate and dedicated pickleball players advocating for the needs of all pickleball players in our community. Before formalizing, our advocacy resulted in the addition of a pickleball court on the Sandringham Park tennis court and subsequent construction of both the original Painswick Park and Redpath Park dedicated pickleball courts.

Highlights in 2021 included, receiving a $25,000 New Horizons for Seniors Grant which the Club turned over to the City of Barrie. The grant funds were used toward the construction of 2 additional dedicated courts at Painswick Park as well as court equipment for the Club. Our advocacy and determination in expanding places to play also resulted in 4 dual purpose courts at Greenfield Park.

In 2022, City Council approved a Staff Report recommending the construction of an 8 court tournament facility at Painswick Park. Construction on those courts was completed in the fall of 2023. Six of the new courts are built to competitive play specifications and 2 are built to elite/wheelchair size specifications. We believe the 2 elite/wheelchair size courts will be the first outdoor courts of their kind in Ontario.

The Club plays indoors at several public and catholic schools in Barrie throughout the fall/winter months.

Lessons/Learn to Play

If you are interested in learn-to-play classes, drill sessions, clinics, private, semi-private or small group lessons, contact the club at lessons@barriepickleballclub.ca. Please be patient, as we have a large volume of inquiries.

2024 Spring Indoor Play

The following indoor pickleball playing opportunities are available for the spring session. Play for most evenings/schools begins the week following March break. Thank you to all the school liaisons who help at each school. Play would not happen without your help!

The format of play at several locations is OPEN for members of all levels and abilities (unless otherwise stated). Where numbers warrant, players will use a whiteboard to sign up their foursomes.

Please note that club membership is required to participate in indoor events, which comes at and additional cost.

*Players registering for these level-specific nights/locations must have skills and abilities at the minimum level listed. Please refer to the attached documents regarding skill rating criteria. Players who join and don't meet the level will be asked to leave the group, and a refund will be issued (minus the PCNS processing fee).

WAITLISTS

If you register for an event that has reached capacity, you will be added to the waitlist. If a spot becomes available, you will receive an email inviting you to complete your registration by paying the required fee. Due to high demand, players will have 18 hours to complete their registration before the next participant on the waitlist is invited to register for that open spot.

Membership Closed Until 2025

Pickleball Ontario notified affiliate clubs that effective September 1st any new club registration would be effective until December 31,2025.

Since we are considering terminating our affiliation with Pickleball Ontario, we have closed our membership as we consider options for 2025.

We are also determining membership fee structure for next year.

Check back for details when membership will open for 2025.

Where to Play

During the summer months, please see the attached schedule for outdoor programming. Club play will take place at Painswick Park from 6 pm to 10 pm. Please see the posted schedule for information on courts which are permitted by the club. Courts A, B, K and L are always for community members to play on WITHOUT a club membership.

We are thrilled to offer a wide range of evening indoor play options at several local schools in the fall, winter, and spring, catering to a variety of levels.

Also, during the fall/winter, the City of Barrie offers drop-in pickleball at both the East Bayfield and Peggy Hill Recreation Centers. Please check the City of Barrie drop-in schedule for details.
