The Origins of LPC
Pickleball was introduced to London in 2011 through Huff N' Puff, a seniors fitness association.
A group of 29 individuals from this group including current Lifetime LPC Members
John Blackwell, Sunny Chan, Norene Clancy, John & Lillian Cree, Bernie Dunn, Bill Gilmour,
Janet Hughes, Susan & Peter Singleton, Carol & Ken Twilley were looking
for a more structured and competitive play opportunity.
Following countless discussions, London Pickleball Club became a reality in 2012.
The first Board consisted of Bill Mason, Peter Singleton and Ken Twilley (Facilitators),
Norene Clancy and Susan Singleton (Treasurers), and Lillian Cree (Recording Secretary).
Peter Singleton secured the first venue at Beal Secondary School.
Since then club play has included Beal and Davison Secondary Schools (TVDSB),
St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary School (LDCSB), Total Tennis and the University Tennis Centre.
Looking to generate revenue and promote Pickleball competition in Ontario,
organizers Bill Mason, Peter Singleton, Ken Twilley, Norene Clancy and Susan Singleton
began the LPC Invitational Pickleball Tournament in 2013.
The first tournament held at CHOCC with 123 players has travelled to NLOCC
and Fanshawe College, where in 2019 there were 300+ competitors.
It, along with the Provincial Championships is the longest
running Pickleball tournament in Ontario.
