SCPA League/Ladder Play

SCPA uses the Pickleball.com software for running League/Ladder (Club Rating) play.

In 2025 SCPA will run the following Leagues:

Saturday 10:00 am - 11:30 Ladies League (all levels)

Saturday 1:00 pm - 2:30 Men's League (all levels)

The above selection was decided on by your Outdoor Team taking into consideration the feedback from the 2024 player surveys.

The idea of the League/Ladder play is to play a round robin of 4 or 5 players per court with similar ratings and skill in friendly yet competitive play.  As ratings

Players who want to play in the League must set up a profile on Pickleball.com (if they do not already have one). Once they have set up their profile, selected Strathcona County Pickleball Association as their Club, they must notify Barbara Mullen (Barbara.Mullen@scpa.ca), that they wish to participate in the League.  Once notified they will be added to the respective league.

After players play each session and the scores have been recorded the software will give you a new personal club rating. Players that reach the highest level in their league and maintain the same for 4 weeks, will be moved up to the next level of play. The criteria established for 2024 upward movement is as follows:

There is a cost to the club for using Pickleball.com in running each weekly session.

All players who opt in to play a session will be charged $3.00 which can be paid via Visa / Mastercard to cover the US $ cost to the club. When processing your card payment ensure you insert your postal code  beside the cvc # prior to submitting the payment.   If you cancel your attendance before opt-in / opt-out is locked, a credit is posted to your Pickleball.com online account.

Player texting in the software is active and when setting up your profile you should ensure that you opt in to receive emails and texts.

  • Brackets will allow players to opt in or out for each date on the software 7 days from 9:00 PM to 2 hours before the event.
  • League Managers will be on their phone or tablet at the courts and will check-in opted-in players using the platform 15 minutes before the start of the session.  If you are late, and the Manager has locked the session, don't expect to play!
  • Managers will lock the session and the groups of players will be set by Pickleball.com based on your  Pickleball.com SCPA rating.  If it is your first time in the league, you will start at your assessed level.
  • Standard League Session - Games will be first to 11, win by 1 for 4 player courts with a double round robin. 5 player groups will play one round with games to 15, win by 1.
  • The software will assign 4 player groups starting with the highest rated players and then assign the remaining groups as required to match the number of opted in players.
  • The Manager will call for a player in each group to record the scores and announce the server and person who picks the end to play from.  Once play has completed, the person will record the final score. The score will be verified by a member of the opposite team prior to saving the same.
  • Highest seed player of each group gets to pick side for each game based on conditions.
  • *Club Ratings will be calculated each night after the session.

Note, with the merge between Pickleball Brackets and Pickleball.com we are hearing of issues with the updating of player ratings after the day has been completed.   We have investigated other platforms to run league / ladder events, but all are significantly higher and still do not provide the updating of player ratings.  The Club has elected to run the leagues through Pickleball.com for the month of May and June and see how things go.  There is an option to have the results of games applied to each players DUPR profile.  For the May / June Leagues this option has not been applied but will consider doing it in the next session based on player feedback.  The Club may have to revert to an alternate option if we do not get the functionality we are looking for from Pickleball.com.

For the 2025 leagues we have set the ratings as follows:

  • first choice - Pickleball.com SCPA Club Ratings (if you have one)
  • second choice - self rating
