Mission
Parksville Oceanside Pickleball Society is a community-based, non-profit club dedicated to promoting the sport of pickleball in the Parksville and Oceanside region. We strive to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for players of all ages and skill levels, fostering camaraderie, active living, and a lifelong love of the game.
New/Beginner Players
Prior to joining Parksville Oceanside Pickleball Society (POPS), if you are a new/beginner player with little or no knowledge of how to score, proper positioning, the no volley/kitchen zone, or the basic strategies of pickleball, please visit the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) website (www.rdn.bc.ca) for Beginner Lessons offered in the Oceanside area (normally available September to June). POPS does not offer beginner lessons.

Sunday Update for 26-Apr-2026
First some news on the Lacrosse Box work. Some of you may have noticed on Wednesday the city was walking around the Lacrosse Box talking about the work with the contractor. The city came over and talk to one of our board members after the meeting and indicated they are waiting on an archaeologist report because this site might have sacred importance. The report is required before the contractor can start work. There is currently no timeline on when the city will receive the report.
We will be starting out scheduled play on the week of 4-May-2026 and it looks like we will still be outdoors, but we are trying to get a confirmation from the RDN, who provides the permit for us to use the Lacrosse Box. The Curling Club is being flexible on when we start playing indoors in their facility and we are grateful to them.
To prepare for playing in the Curling Club, we are looking for a few volunteers to help set up the nets and fences in the Curling Club on Wednesday, 29-Apr-2026, starting at 10am. If you can help, please reply to this message.
If you are a new member of POPS and ordered a name tag, it has arrived! Name tags will be available during Morning Play.
Finally, some of you may have noticed that recent emails from me have landed in your spam or junk folder. We've recently switched to a new email address, president@pops.club, and while we've done everything on our end to make sure our emails are properly authenticated, spam filters can still behave unpredictably — even for people using the same email provider like Gmail or Hotmail.
This is completely normal when a new email address hasn't yet built up a reputation with email providers. It doesn't mean anything is wrong.
To make sure you don't miss any club communications, please take 30 seconds to do the following:
- Check your spam or junk folder for any recent emails from president@pops.club.
- If you find one, open it and mark it as "Not Spam" (or "Not Junk").
- Add president@pops.club to your contacts or safe senders list.
These steps will train your email provider to trust president@pops.club going forward.
If you have any questions or aren't sure how to do this for your specific email app, just reply to this message and we'll help you out.
Thank you for your patience as we get settled in with the new address!

Set Up and Take Down for April
Please keep an eye on the set up and take down schedule for April. It is located here. We have several times where there is nobody to set up or take down, like tomorrow.

Sunday Update for 19-Apr-2026
No updates from the city yet on the work for the Lacrosse Box. We are moving forward with working with the Curling Club and coming up with the schedule for our play starting the week of 4-May. The schedule will look very similar to what we had last year with the addition of two courts set aside for Men's Play on the days we have Gentle Play. On a plus note, when we are in the curling club, we will have eight courts instead of six courts in the Lacrosse Box, which will allow us to increase the number of players for each session.
We are looking for some help with some of the things we do as a club. We would like help with the following:
- A volunteer coordinator, or two - This person will make sure we have volunteers for sessions, set up, and take down and notify me if something needs to be cancelled due to lack of volunteers, or we need to call out for volunteers.
- A tournament committee - This committee will help coordinate and run the tournaments we have scheduled for this year.
- A social committee - This committee with coordinate and run any social events we want to have. In the past we have done a bowling and pizza afternoon, but we can do more if we have a group of people willing to coordinate events.
If you are interested or have questions about the opportunities to volunteer, please let me know.
Have a good week and I hope to see you on the courts!
Sean

Sunday Update for 5-Apr-2026
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) is next Saturday, 11-Apr-2026, at 10 until 12. There is no pickleball scheduled for next Saturday so people can attend the AGM. The meeting minutes from last year's AGM and the agenda for this year's AGM are attached.
Outdoor play has started for the year! Friday was our first day on the courts and Saturday was a lovely sunny day. I hope people are able to get out this week and play. Reminder that morning play is Social Play from 9am until 11:30am Monday through Saturday.
I hope to see many of you on the courts and at the AGM next Saturday.
