Date #3: 19 septembre 2026
Manitoulin Island, Ontario

Introduction

Doors open at 9:00 am. Play begins at 10am after a short review of rally scoring and Team play format.

Team play events are normally limited to 16 people: ideally 8 Women and 8 Men to make up 4 equal teams.
Please WAITLIST if you are outside the first 16 registrants, as spares and extra teams may be needed.

If you have time, please review “rally scoring”, “MLP format” on our website and check out a few MLP matches on YouTube (go back to 2024-25 season when rally scoring was used - last season MLP was normal side-out scoring).

Here’s what you need to know:

- Rally scoring will be used throughout, so all team members should think about which side of the court they prefer:

Left handers should be on the right side, in mixed generally the female is right, otherwise just put your stronger forehand on the left side.

- We start with a round robin where each team completes a match with each of the other teams.

- Each match consists of 4 doubles games, rotating the SAME doubles teams in the SAME order each time. With each team consisting of 2 women and 2 men, the order will be WOMEN, MEN, MIXED, MIXED.

Doubles combinations will be selected by the team Captains before tournament day.

- Each game is worth 1 point. After the 4 games, if it is a 2 - 2 tie, there is a tiebreaker.

- Tiebreakers will be 1/2 court (i.e. “skinny”) singles where all team members rotate every 4 points using the same order: Female, Female, Male, Male. Please review the "Skinny Singles" video on our website.

- Round robin games are to a hard 15 with a freeze at 14. Tie breakers go to a hard 12 with no freeze.

(“Hard” means “win by 1”, “Freeze” means you have to win the last point ON your serve.)

- After the round robin, we move to playoff games which are to 25 points with a freeze at 24 with the four doubles groups rotating every 5 points in the same order as in the round robin. The bottom 2 teams play for Bronze and top 2 teams play for Gold/Silver.

NOTE: IF PLAY IS RUNNING LATE, THE POINTS AND FORMAT MAY CHANGE.

Volunteers who are used to rally scoring please help with calling the score, checking for the correct server and announcing side outs.

Let us know if there are any concerns or questions.
