How to Get a DUPR Rating in Pickleball *

A Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating (DUPR) is the most widely used global rating system in pickleball. It gives players a numerical skill rating based on actual match results rather than self-assessment. Ratings generally range from about 2.0 (beginner) to 8.0+ (top professional players).

You can create a DUPR account and learn more at DUPR Official Website

Step 1: Create a DUPR Account

  1. 1. Download the DUPR App or sign up on the website.
  1. 2. Create your free profile.
  1. 3. Enter your basic information and select your location.

At first, your rating may show as “NR” (No Rating) until enough match data is entered.

Step 2: Play Matches That Count

DUPR ratings are generated from match results. There are several ways to get matches into the system:

  • Tournament matches
  • League play
  • Club ladder matches
  • Recreational matches submitted through the app

Both singles and doubles matches can count.

Step 3: Record Your Matches

There are two main ways matches get added:

Automatic Uploads

Many tournaments and leagues automatically connect with DUPR and upload results for you.

Manual Entry

You can also enter recreational games yourself:

  1. 1. Open the DUPR app.
  1. 2. Select “Record a Match.”
  1. 3. Enter players and scores.
  1. 4. All players confirm the result.

Once verified, the match becomes part of your rating history.

Get an Assessment

If none of the above options work for you, get one of our VRPA Coaches, Becca Stuve or Shanna Kokonis, to assess you and provide an initial DUPR rating.

Step 4: Build a Reliable Rating

Your DUPR becomes more accurate as you play more games against rated players.

A few important things affect your rating:

  • Who you play
  • Whether you win or lose
  • Score margins
  • Consistency over time

Beating stronger players raises your rating more than beating beginners.

Step 5: Understand Reliability Score

DUPR also gives a “reliability” percentage.
A higher reliability means the system has enough data to trust your rating.

  • Low reliability: very few matches played
  • High reliability: many verified matches against rated opponents
