WWPB Club Rating Methodology for 2025

Why do ratings matter?

Most WWPB scheduled play is organized by player ratings so like-skilled members play with and against like-skilled players.

We strongly recommend and encourage those new to pickleball, beginners with little or no experience to start by taking Introduction to Pickleball or Learn to Play lessons at our Drills and Skills or from a pickleball facilities offering these programs.

Pickleball Canada website contains an excellent description of the skills you must master for each rating level.

Rating Methodologies accepted by Winnipeg West Pickleball for 2025 by Skill Level are:

2.5 SKILL RATING (Novice)

1. Self-rated - no rating assessment required.

3.0 SKILL RATING (Intermediate)

1. IPTPA skill rating from any certified IPTPA professional for a 3.0 rating; or
2. Skill rating from a Bison Pickleball professional for a 3.0 rating; or
3. Self-Rating.

3.5 SKILL RATING (Advanced)

1. A Skill rating from a Bison Pickleball professional at the 3.5 level.

** DUPR and CTPR will NOT be accepted for a 3.5 rating**

This group is too broad in skill level with too few sectioned tournament players and usually with considerable “sand bagging” occurring at local tournaments to be statistically valid.

4.0 SKILL RATING

1. 1. A Skill rating from a Bison Pickleball professional at the 4.0 level; or
2. CTPR rating (Canadian Tournament Pickleball Rating) - subject to having played and recorded 10 sanction games within the last 24 months while maintaining a 4.0 rating: or
3. DUPR will be accepted for a 4.0 rating with a MINIMUM of 60 recorded games and a MINIMUM Reliability score of 65%
   
   

4.5 SKILL RATING AND HIGHER

1. CTPR rating (Canadian Tournament Pickleball Rating) - subject to having played and recorded 10 sanction games within the last 24 months while maintaining a 4.5 rating: or
   
2. DUPR will be accepted for a 4.5 rating and higher with a MINIMUM of 60 recorded games and a MINIMUM Reliability Score of 65%.
