Today's spotlight is on ERNIE CHAUVIN and JOE BACHMEIER.
Ernie, one of our members, is also a pilot. In 1989 Ernie built a racing Lancair 360 airplane from an experimental home built kit. It is a composite construction, has a Lycoming aircraft engine, 180 horse power, 2 seater plane. It took him 4 years to build and has a racing speed of 220 mph. He has flown it to places such as Vancouver Island, Cape Breton, PEI, Kirkland Lake, Phoenix, San Diego and many, many tours of Essex County. It was built in a hangar at Windsor Airport and in a Belle River shop.
1993 was the first flight to Oshkosh on completion of the plane. July 1999, was the first air race, consisting of 1,000 miles from Kitty Hawk, N.C. the site of the successful controlled flight by the Wright Bros. to Oshkosh, WI, site of a week long celeb ration of flight. The Lancair finished 3rd in its class.
He does formation flying with his flying friends as well as aerobatics and racing. He participated for 10 years in a program called "Young Eagles" where 1,000 kids age 7-17 were given a 20 minute flight with volunteer pilots at Windsor Airport. He has participated in flyby's for service people in the "missing man" formation on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11 each year, as well as an "Honour Flight" for pilots who have passed away. He continues to enjoy Sunday morning flights to Godrich for breakfast, with fellow pilots and he loves to take his friends and family around Essex County to give them the experience of flying in a small, but very fast plane.
Joe Bachmeier
Joe, another of our members, has been married to his wife, Mari-Sue for thirty-seven years. They live in Tecumseh where they raised their daughters Emily and Molly. Today, October 31st is the ninth anniversary of his retirement from the Windsor Police Service. He started in policing in 1982 and served for thirty-three years retiring on this day in 2015 holding the rank of Inspector. For the past eight years he has been a member of the Windsor Goodfellows Club (est. 1910), volunteering in the club’s twice-weekly food bank. In addition he has been a board member for the past four years. He has also researched and has written a book covering the 114yr history of the club. As many know, the Goodfellows operates a food bank but also administers four other local community based programs covering Windsor, Tecumseh and LaSalle. These include school breakfast programs, a children’s footwear program, a homeless lunch bag program, and supply food to thirty-two other local organizations which address poverty. The club receives its funding primarily from personal donations, receiving no government funding. Because the Goodfellows has always operated using volunteer workers (with only one paid employee) it can remain independent. It is not a part of the local Food Bank Association which often employ many paid staff. He is also a charter member (2018) of the board of directors of Oneday Dreams. Operating Canada-wide, Oneday can best be described as being similar to the Make-A- Wish program for terminally ill children…but for terminally ill adults. As a part of his roles with both charities (and for five other non-for-profits) he has written or updated the organization’s operating bylaws. For fun and exercise, he tries to play Pickleball two or three times per week. He particularly enjoys trading mostly corny jokes with Daphne. He and his wife enjoy travelling, especially to the Mediterranean and Europe. Cruises are their preferred mode. In his spare time he is remodeling his younger daughter’s walk-up attic, installing a two- piece bathroom and upgrading ventilation and insulation.

Process will be streamlined
Sessions will be paid for at the time of booking
Sessions will be booked daily (as opposed to monthly)
Sessions that are full will have waitlists and next member will be notified if spot becomes available
Payment will be made through credit card or VISA debit card
Members can purchase SERVICE PACKS, which will show as play credits on member account. Service packs allow members to buy 10 credits and save $10 over buying individual sessions
Sessions booked using SERVICE PACK play credits can be cancelled 48 hours prior without penalty (play credit will go back on member account)
Alternatively, single play purchases can be made, however there is a slight cost increase as these sessions have a higher processing cost. Any sessions cancelled through this method are non refundable
GLOFOX will be used starting with our October sessions and can be accessed on Android and Apple devices and through our website. The manuals can be found on the left hand menu
We have setup some demo sessions that members can use to see how the booking system works. There is no cost to use the demo sessions. Should you experience any difficulties in using the app you can contact us for technical support at helpdesk.wpc@gmail.com
