Newsletter #89 - December 2025

Newsletter #89
Holiday Edition- December 2025
Season's Greetings!
The Board of Directors thanks all members for your continued support during 2025. Highlights were:
- 527 members played outdoor at Douglas Park and Mahon Courts with exceptional support and great play
- PRI was supportive and members played well at the Provincials and Nationals, including part of Team SK.
- Our overall volunteer skillsets were recognized by PCO with key people helping the Nationals succeed in Winnipeg, MB
- The PRI membership continues to support QCPH on a daily basis
- Efforts to re-start a youth program began with modest success
- Supporting the Doug Olson charity event raised over $4400 for Heart and Stroke Canada, while the Allan Blair Cancer event introduced ABCC staff to pickleball with PRI cancer survivors volunteering as a way to show gratitude for their help.
- We continue to have an excellent group of active coaches, quality referees, many volunteer hosts and those that support us all behind the scenes.
- Tuxedo sold out quickly as a successful option while Agribition occupies the QCPH space.
The 2025-26 Board, elected at the October 19th AGM wishes you and your family the very best of the holiday season and a happy new year in 2026!
Looking Ahead - 2026
As eventful as 2025 was, there are new plans and opportunities coming in 2026 including:
- A new era will begin for the outdoor program with new City fee schedules, creating challenges for a different fee structure for members
- Efforts will be undertaken to recruit more members through a Membership Day at Douglas Park in early June
- Continued efforts to solve the mysteries of youth play are underway as the PRI booth at the Teachers Convention produced 98 leads from 48 schools that we are pursuing now for in-school demos in the months ahead
- a commitment to return to a more formal rating process, not fully developed, as the self-rating process currently in place is not working for all members
Welcome New Directors!
In accordance with PRI bylaws, the Board of Directors can appoint members to vacant director positions not filled at the Annual General Meeting. Please join with the Board and welcome Lillian Schweitzer as our new Treasurer and Chuck Sylvestre as a director at large effective December 14, 2025.
Winter 2026 Indoor Program
Indoor programs resume at QCPH - the schedule of events is on Court Reserve. Volunteers willing to host are asked to contact Marilyn Picard at 306-536-9442 or contact membership@pickleballregina.ca with suggestions for new programs you'd like to host.
Changes Coming - 2026 Outdoor Program
The City of Regina has approved the leisure fees bylaw for pickleball for outdoor courts for 2026. This will result in increased fees, as permit costs will rise to over $10.00 per hour per court. With these increased rental rates, PRI anticipates the fees for outdoor programming will increase for the summer.
Programming is working to modify next year's outdoor schedule to provide a variety of programs while keeping the increased cost to play in line with the new permit costs. Plans are to start late May and end in early September for a fifteen week outdoor program. Details will be released in the spring.
SAVE THE DATE - Pickleball Saskatchewan Provincials 2026
Pickleball Regina has been awarded the Pickleball Saskatchewan Provincials for 2026, planned for May 29-31, 2026 at the Queen City Pickleball Hub. Planning is beginning to ensure we have the same top quality event you know we can organize, given our successes with previous provincials, regionals and the highly successful Myoflex 2023 Pickleball Canada National Championship. Watch for details and opportunities for your involvement over the next few months.
